Why start free instead of a paid platform
Most global store builders price their entry plan in US dollars and expect a card before you've made a single sale. For someone testing whether an idea sells at all — a side hustle, a first product line, a move off Instagram DMs — that's a real barrier before you've earned a Rand. Starting free removes it.
When you're ready for more products and orders, card payments, or a custom domain, Starter is R99/month and Growth is R299/month — both fixed Rand prices, not tied to the exchange rate.

Is the free plan actually free, or a time-limited trial?
It's an ongoing R0/month plan, not a trial with an expiry date. You can run a small shop on it indefinitely — up to 5 products and 10 orders a month, paid by bank EFT. If you outgrow that, Starter (R99/month) and Growth (R299/month) add more room and features — but there's no forced deadline to upgrade.
Do I need a credit card to sign up?
No. You can create your shop, add products, and start taking bank EFT payments without entering any card details.
What can't I do on the free plan?
The free plan allows up to 5 products and 10 orders a month, and buyers pay by bank EFT. Card and instant payments (PayFast, Yoco, Ozow, SnapScan), Order on WhatsApp, product reel videos, live courier rates, online bookings, team accounts, a custom domain, your own favicon and VAT invoices are on the paid plans. Discount codes and collections are included on every plan.
Does ShopFront charge a fee on top of my sales even on the free plan?
No. Whichever plan you're on, ShopFront never adds its own transaction fee to your sales. On the free plan buyers pay you by bank EFT, straight into your account. On a paid plan, if you use a payment gateway (PayFast, Ozow, Yoco or SnapScan), that gateway charges its own standard rate — that part applies no matter which platform you use.
